Ardis Hoven
Ardis Dee Hovin, MD, an internal medicine and infectious disease specialist in Lexington, Ky., is chair of the Board of Trustees at the American Medical Association. She served as its secretary for 2008-2009, and in June 2010 began serving as chair for 2010-2011.
Prior to her election, Dr. Hoven served as a member and chair of the AMA Council on Medical Service. SHe was a member of the Utilization Review and Accreditation Commission for six years and served on its executive committee. Additional activities have included service on the Group Practice Advisory Council of the AMA and an appointment to the Practicing Physicians Advisory Commission. Most recently she was appointed to the National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality.
Dr. Hoven received her undergraduate degree in microbiology and then her medical degree from the University of Kentucky, Lexington. She completed her internal medicine and infectious disease training at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Since then, she has been in active practice and currently is the medical director of the Bluegrass Care Clinic, an infectious disease and HIV/AIDS practice affiliated with the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.
