Jim Guest

Jim Guest is President and Chief Executive Officer of Consumers Union (CU), the independent, nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports. He became President in February 2001, after a long career serving the consumer interest, including 21 years as Chair of CU's Board. During his tenure, CU has significantly increased its reach and impact—attracting more than 8 million subscribers to its products and services, engaging more than 750,000 citizen activists to take action on key issues, and successfully launching new initiatives such as ConsumerReportsHealth.org and the Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center.
 
Mr. Guest is currently a member of the Institute of Medicine’s Roundtable on Evidence-Based Medicine, the Quality Alliance Steering Committee, and the Lucian Leape Institute of the National Patient Safety Foundation. 
 
Mr. Guest’s public service career spans more than three decades. Prior to joining CU, Mr. Guest headed several nonprofit, advocacy organizations and was the founding Executive Director of the American Pain Foundation, a national consumer information, education, and advocacy organization for pain prevention and management. He’s also worked as a legislative assistant to Senator Ted Kennedy and as Vermont’s Banking and Insurance Commissioner, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Development and Community Affairs.
